LONG-TIME COMMUNITY ADVOCATE, KIM FRAZIER, ANNOUNCES RUN FOR

KNOX COUNTY COMMISSION, AT LARGE SEAT 11

Years as a servant leader has prepared Frazier to get to work on Day One.

KNOX COUNTY, TN: On Thursday, October 28, long-time community advocate and servant leader, Kim Frazier, officially announced that she is pursuing the opportunity to serve on KnoxCounty Commission by seeking the At Large Seat 11, which represents all Knox County citizens rather than a single district. Frazier will be a candidate in the Knox County Republican Primary on May 3, 2022.

Frazier is excited to formally announce her first-time candidacy for elected office. She says, “It has been a privilege serving the people of Knox County as a dedicated volunteer. Every experience, personally, civically, and professionally, has prepared me to step out from behind the scenes and make bringing awareness to the needs and visions of the incredible communities in every corner of Knox County my full-time work.”

Frazier, a champion for neighborhoods countywide through the organization and leadership of numerous community groups, will focus her campaign on meeting and visiting with local residents to hear their concerns, ideas, and what is important to them. “I have been showing up when it was about advocating for people and communities, not an election or a campaign. I am a proven, engaged, and active participant in local government processes, and I am ready to get to work for the people of Knox County on day one.”

Just 12 years ago, Kim Frazier was happy being a room mom at her then-elementary-aged sons school in Hardin Valley. She was balancing being a wife, mother, volunteer, and human resources consultant when a personal experience changed her trajectory and launched her into the local government scene.

“I simply could not eat with my boys in their school cafeteria due to school overcrowding. That one denied experience with my kids made me take note and start asking questions. After many phone calls, meetings, and hours of research, I realized how the weekly decisions made by our local officials directly impacted me, my family, and my community and I needed to pay attention.”

Frazier more than paid attention when she made the decision to devote time and energy to advocating for Knox County government to take a serious look at school enrollments, capacities, regional growth, infrastructure needs, and countywide planning. In a recent interview, Frazier elaborated on her findings. “As a county, we were simply behind in addressing basic community needs and visions of citizens, and this was impacting everything from recreational offerings to economic opportunities. Shifting the county mindset from being reactive to proactive is not an easy undertaking, but we have made significant strides and are moving in the right direction. It’s critically important that we elect folks that understand and will support the implementation of comprehensive planning, and I have been leading the charge on just that for almost a decade.” Frazier and her community groups, including Knox CountyPlanning Alliance and Hardin Valley Planning Advocates, have been champions for the approval and support of the upcoming Knox County Comprehensive Land Use, Transportation, and Park Plan.

Frazier’s husband, volunteer Chief of Knox County Rescue, Russ Frazier, reflects on his wife’s evolutionary pursuit to understand local government. “Kim is a doer, a problem solver, and a hard worker. I have watched her invest her time and talents into learning and understanding the structure and culture of how local government works and how best to address issues. She has a natural gift for bringing people together, and we need that more than ever right now.”

Frazier is no stranger to stepping up when needed, as proven in her long list of community service activities and inclusion on multiple county stakeholder groups and the Knox CountyEthics Committee. “I love to be a part of a team, start conversations, and seek positive outcomes. I have, and always will put people and community first,” she said.
